AR Games Night continues! 8/19 at Greenway Yoga
Ahhhh, Leo Season. Peak summer in the northern hemisphere, time to shine. We’ve got some complex geometry and movement making things feel challenging. Depending upon your attitude, the challenge may be welcome
We have a lot of fixed energy activating the full moon, so you may be noticing a stubbornness emerge. Fixed energy is about wanting things a certain way, and it often requires an act of will. Jupiter is lighting up this full moon while Venus, now retrograde, is forcing us to slow some things down - our expectations, mostly.
Venus went retrograde last week, the day before I opened registration for my new program, the Power of Purpose. I spoke with 20 people on the phone over the course of 5 days, and 16 of them committed to the program.
I made sure all of them knew to watch their emails on Friday afternoon and to jump on the registration asap. There were a very limited amount of spaces in the program and I was determined to fill it up before announcing it publicly.
I sent out the email and…crickets. 3 of the 16 signed up by the end of the day. Then I remembered…Venus!!!
Why would I plan the start of my program and align the purchase decision with the weekend after Venus goes retrograde??
So, I had to hustle. I felt the excitement from everyone I spoke with and I could feel their commitment to the program when we talked. Everyone got multiple personalized text reminders with sign-up links over the next few days.
It wasn’t going to happen without me making sure that it happened. I was determined to have everyone signed up over the weekend so I could transition to recovering from a huge week and getting ready for an intense 8 weeks.
Venus was going to make me earn it. And I fucking earned it. Sold out program, I 5x’d my client base in a week.
The Trials of Venus
Venus is not going to make it easy for us. We will need to be patient and decisive. We will have to act like we want it bad. We will need to act like it’s going to be hard.
What good does it do anyone to assume it’s going to be easy?
Venus will go direct around Labor Day. We’ve got 6ish weeks to prove to her what we’re made of. To prove to her how bad we want it, and how hard we are willing to work for it.
And she will reward our work.
Her retrograde journey begins in the 29th gene key, with the Shadow of Half-heartedness, and the Gift of Commitment. She is testing our Commitment. Any half-hearted efforts might as well be abandoned.
If you can’t give it everything you’ve got right now, don’t even bother.
She ends in the 33rd, with the Shadow of Forgetting, the Gift of Mindfulness, and the Siddhi of Revelation. What interests me here is the Codon Ring. The 33rd, along with the 12th and 56th, belong to the Ring of Trials, a series of tests all humans must face on their road to realization.
It is time to find out what you are really capable of. To do that, we have to try. Really try.
Of course, the Sun is in the 33rd for this full moon too.
What I love about this retrograde journey for Venus is how it backpedals into a massive square with Jupiter in Taurus - a Venus-ruled sign. Because her retrograde slows significantly, she squares off with Jupiter for weeks.
If we test ourselves, and I mean really test ourselves, we have Jupiter waiting to expand and shower us with good fortune. If we stay in our comfort zones and don’t actually try, we’ll have Jupiter’s shadows to contend with - irresponsibility and complacency.
The 3 shadows of the Codon Ring of trials are Forgetting (33), Distraction (56), and Vanity (12). These 3 shadows will tempt us relentlessly for the next 6 weeks.
Don’t forget what you are trying to do. Don’t let yourself get distracted, not now. And don’t think that you’re too good to try, to give your whole heart to everything.
The Ultimate Test
My wife gave birth to our son in February 2022. Anytime she doubts herself now, I remind her: “You remember when you gave birth to Simon? You can do anything.”
That’s one of the many reasons these tests are here for us. If we never find out what we’re made of, what we’re really capable of, what’s the point?
And yet, how do we balance the desire to push ourselves with the very real limitations of physical form? When is it best to “listen to our bodies” and take it easy? When is it best to power through and find the strength to obliterate the edges of our comfort zones?
There’s no easy answer to this dilemma. We have to actively wrestle with it.
The Climb
Every morning, I go on a short bike ride with my son. We strap our helmets on and I strap him into our Burley bike trailer.
We live at the base of a hill, and my bike needs a bit of a tune-up - she isn’t quite operating at peak efficiency.
And every morning, we climb that hill to catch a glimpse of the sunrise. I spend the 5 minutes on the way to the base of the hill trying to talk myself out of the climb.
“I’m tired”
“The air quality is bad”
“My hamstring is sore”
And every morning, I do it. From the bottom, the road to the top looks endless.
It would be so easy to say, “Listen to your body, take it easy.”
And then I remember. It’s a 5-minute climb. I burn a total of 150 calories on the 12-minute bike ride. And my heart health benefits tremendously from the early morning spike to 165 BPM. My days go better when I show myself what I am capable of every morning.
“Listen to your body” is an exquisite teaching.
The problem is that most people use their minds to listen to their bodies.
Listen to your body, yes. But don’t listen with your mind. Listen with your heart.
